Rep. Porter Announces Run for Progressive Caucus Leadership Position

As Deputy Chair, Congresswoman will work to build public support for progressive priorities

U.S. Congresswoman Katie Porter (CA-45) today announced her candidacy for Deputy Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC). If elected to this leadership role, she would help advance progressive priorities by communicating with the American people and working with other Congressional caucuses, outside advocates, and partners in the Biden-Harris Administration.

“I know from firsthand experience: a progressive agenda is not only the right policy for America, but it’s also a winning political message,” Congresswoman Porter said. “Now that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are on their way to the White House, our work begins in making the case that progressive policies are the best way to help families. We need progressive leaders to step up and be fierce advocates for our ideas, and I’m confident I would do that effectively with the support of my CPC colleagues.”

During her first term, Porter has been a champion for progressive causes and served as a member of the CPC Executive Board. She’s held corporate special interests accountable and advocated for stronger worker protections. She’s won two terms in Congress as a supporter of Medicare for All in a district where Republicans outnumber Democrats.
