Time to Sign Up for Health Insurance

Dear Neighbor,

California has its own health insurance marketplace, Covered California, where you can shop for and enroll in health insurance. This year, the annual open enrollment period began on November 1, 2023. From now until January 31, 2024, Californians can enroll in a health insurance plan or make changes to their existing coverage.

If you are unable to get health insurance through your employer, you can explore a wide range of health plans through Covered California to decide which one best meets your needs. To determine your eligibility and compare plans, please visit Shop & Compare Health Insurance Plans | Covered California™. Go to https://www.coveredca.com/ or call (800) 300-1506 to enroll in health insurance programs.

What to Consider During Open Enrollment:

  • Review Your Current Plan: If you already have health insurance, review your existing plan. Consider whether it still meets your needs and budget. This open enrollment period is your chance to make changes.

  • Check for Subsidies: If your income has changed or you have experienced a significant life event, check your eligibility for subsidies and tax credits.

  • Explore Network Options: Make sure your preferred doctors and other providers are in the network of your chosen insurance plan.

  • Consider Family Needs: If you have family members on your insurance, think about their health care needs and choose a plan that adequately covers them.

  • Plan Ahead: Don't wait until the last minute to enroll or make changes. Plan ahead to avoid missing out on coverage.

Open enrollment helps Californians get health insurance. Both here at home and in DC, I will continue working so that every American can get the care they need.
