Rep. Porter Statement on Resolution Condemning Trump Administration Legal Campaign to Strike Down Protections for Americans with Pre-existing Conditions

Congresswoman Katie Porter (CA-45) today joined House Democrats in condemning the Trump Administration’s legal campaign to eliminate all of the healthcare protections provided by the Affordable Care Act, including protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions. Following the passage of this resolution, which Congresswoman Porter co-sponsored, she issued the following statement:

“My vote is a vote to support Orange County residents with pre-existing conditions. Families in the 45th District have made clear that they want increased access to affordable, high-quality healthcare, and the Trump Administration’s dangerous war on the Affordable Care Act moves us in the wrong direction. It’s unacceptable.

“On the day I was sworn into Congress, I joined my Democratic colleagues in a successful effort to allow the House Counsel to argue on behalf of the American people and defend the ACA in federal court. Three Republicans joined us in support.

“While President Trump has continued this assault on healthcare, I’ve worked on concrete solutions to make healthcare more affordable. Earlier this year, I introduced legislation with my House colleagues to allow the Medicare program to negotiate lower prescription drug prices, addressing one of the top issues faced by Orange County families.

“Let me be clear: I will work with anyone regardless of party to promote access to affordable, high-quality health insurance. But I will also continue to stand against attempts to strike down the ACA and strip healthcare coverage from the millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions.”
