Youth Advisory Board

Congresswoman Katie Porter is seeking high school and college students passionate about serving their community to participate in her year-long public service program. Applicants must either live or attend school in the 47th Congressional District.

Each youth adviser will have the opportunity to work directly with either the Congresswoman or her team to debate federal legislation along with a diverse group of their peers. They will also be responsible for devising a community action project (CAP) aimed towards serving the 47th district. Legislative topics discussed cover a wide variety of policy areas including gun violence prevention, education reform, foreign policy, and are catered to the knowledge and preferences of the students on the board. At the end of each meeting, the Youth Advisory Board will compile a board report to make their legislative recommendations to the Congresswoman.

Meetings are regularly held on the last Thursday of every month (unless stated otherwise), not including orientation. You must attend 8 of the 10 scheduled meetings in order to remain in good standing. When applying, please ensure that you can commit to these dates:

The application process for the eighth cohort is currently closed. Qualified applicants with demonstrated experience supporting their local communities will be invited for a phone interview.
