Rep. Porter Announces Over $2.5 Billion in Federal COVID Relief Loans Awarded to Businesses in Her District

Over 20,000 businesses have gotten help from program supported by Congresswoman; she continues to push for critical oversight of program to focus help on small businesses

Congresswoman Katie Porter (CA-45) today released data showing that California’s 45th district received nearly $2.6 billion in relief through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Also according to the data, over 20,000 Orange County businesses got help from this program. The Small Business Administration has yet to disclose data on which businesses received funds and in what amounts.

“The coronavirus pandemic has placed an unprecedented burden on small businesses in Orange County,” Congresswoman Porter said. “While I’m pleased that our community received relief through the Paycheck Protection Program, we still need the Administration to provide the public with detailed information about this $650 billion taxpayer-funded program, so we can see that working families and our smallest and most vulnerable businesses—not large corporations—were the ones who got help.”

Congresswoman Porter has long called for robust oversight of coronavirus relief funds, including the Paycheck Protection Program. In May, she introduced legislation to require the Administration disclose identifying information about every PPP loan, including the name, location, amount, and number of employees of each business that received this taxpayer funded relief. She also called for the resignation of SBA Administrator Jovita Carranza following the release of a report from the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office showing that she refused to comply with lawful oversight of the PPP.
