Rep. Katie Porter Statement on FY2023 NDAA
Washington,
December 8, 2022
Congresswoman Katie Porter (D-CA) today released the following statement after voting no on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2023: “This year’s NDAA takes important steps to pay our troops fairly and contains provisions I spearheaded to promote resiliency and sustainability in our military. I am committed to supporting our servicemembers with what they need to protect us. “I cannot support a defense bill that authorizes spending $45 billion more than even what our commander-in-chief thinks is necessary to keep us safe. As a champion for oversight, I’m concerned that these taxpayer dollars will be wasted lining the pockets of big defense contractors. “Having recently returned from the Middle East, where I spoke directly with troops and commanders, I reject the false claim that tens of billions of extra tax dollars are needed for the sake of national security.” ### |
